About South African National Parks

Founded in 1926, SANParks serves as custodian to almost four million hectares (close to 10 million acres) of land and numerous species, including the protected rhinoceros. It covers close to three percent of the land in South Africa and manages 21 national parks, including Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Kruger is home to both the black and white rhino as well as an estimated 48,000 buffalo, 17,000 elephants and 1,500 lions.
